Chocolate Chip Cookies

Nothing smells better than cookies baking in the oven! I love making cookies.

The word cookie is derived from the Dutch word koekje or (informal) koekie which means little cake.

The reason why I love making cookies is that with simple ingredients like flour, butter, sugar and sometimes egg, you get a wonderful snack or a sweet treat that requires no effort and is ready in a jiffy!

But the best part is that you can spruce up the humble cookie and give it a gourmet touch by adding ingredients like spices, candied peels, citrus zest, chocolate, nuts, peanut butter or dry fruits!

I usually make simple round cookies but sometimes make fancy shapes for my 3 year old niece and my 2 year old neighbour!

Here is a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe that can be made with or without egg.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes 25 pieces
Preparation time 15 mins
Cooking time 10 mins

Ingredients

3/4 cup Butter
3/4 cup Powdered Sugar
11/2 cup Flour
3/4tsp Baking Powder
3/4tsp Vanilla Essence
100g Chocolate Chips
1 Egg ( optional)

Procedure

Beat together butter, sugar and essence till light and fluffy.

Add flour and baking powder to the mixture and mix lightly to make a dough.

Add chocolate chips and mix well.

Divide the dough into 25 pieces.

Shape into balls and press lightly with a fork.

Bake in a preheated oven at 150 degrees Celsius for 8-10 mins.

Cool on a wire rack and store in an airtight container.
