Bread and Butter Pudding

Like most of my recipes, this bread and butter pudding recipe is easy to make, doesn't require a lot of cooking and tastes delicious!
It just requires a few simple ingredients, nothing fancy, but the finished product looks beautiful and mouthwatering!
I often make this dessert when i have stale bread in the kitchen. It is also good when you have guests over on short notice.
There are many versions of the classic bread and butter pudding like chocolate, caramel etc...
Many people will tell you it is a tricky dessert as it involves making a custard with eggs and milk. Don't listen to them! It doesn't matter how much milk or how many eggs you use as long as the bread is completely soaked in the custard and absorbs all the liquid.
This is a must try recipe and can assure you that you will keep making this dessert again and again!
So here goes...

Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 1 hour
Serves: 6-8 (or 2 greedy people!!!)

Ingredients
4-6 Slices Bread
1/2 Cup Melted Butter (Optional)
3-4 Eggs
1/2 Litre Milk
1/2 Cup Sugar
1 Tsp Cinnamon Powder
1 Tbsp Demerara Sugar or Dark Muscovado Sugar

Method
Boil milk and leave aside to cool slightly.

Cut bread slices (use the crust too) diagonally and arrange in a greased ovenproof baking dish.
Pour the melted butter over the bread slices. You can also make bread and butter sandwiches and arrange then in the baking dish.

Mix eggs with sugar, cinnamon and warm milk. Don't worry about the ratio of eggs to milk. That is important only if you are making delicate custards like a creme brulee.

Strain the egg and milk mixture and pour over the bread slices.

Let the bread soak up all of the custard. Meanwhile preheat your oven.

Sprinkle some Demerara or Muscovado sugar on top. You can use simple Brown Sugar too.

Bake the dessert in a preheated oven at 160 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Serve warm with Vanilla Icecream or as by itself.

Enjoy!
