Cinnamon Rolls

I had my first cinnamon roll at a mall in Delhi and it tasted awesome! I decided right then to try and make some at home.

I succeeded after trying a few times and now the rolls come out even better than the ones I had first eaten.

The chef on my ship and I made these rolls for dessert a few days back and they were a big hit! The lingering aroma and flavour of cinnamon and the deep sweetness of brown sugar combined with melt in mouth texture of the bread is a treat for all five senses!

And I bet no one can eat just one! You can serve the rolls as they are, warm from the oven or drizzle some frosting on top for extra sweetness.

These rolls taste even better the day after and we enjoyed them for breakfast with some hot coffee the next day.

Here is a must try recipe

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Rising Time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Makes: 12 rolls

Ingredients
3 Cups Flour
3 Tsp Dry Yeast
3 Tbsp Granulated White Sugar(for activating yeast)
1/2 Cup Granulated White Sugar
1 Tsp Salt
2 Eggs
1/2 Cup Melted Butter
Lukewarm Water

For Filling
200 g Butter
200 g Dark Brown Sugar (preferably Muscovado)
4 Tbsp Cinnamon Powder

For Frosting
100 g Icing Sugar
Boiling Water

Procedure

Dissolve 3 tbsp sugar in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Add yeast and set aside for 5-10 minutes. It should be frothy after 5-10 minutes.

Sift together flour and salt in a large bowl and mix in the 1/2 cup sugar.

Whisk the eggs slighlty with a fork

Make a well in the centre and pour the yeast mixture in.

Pour in the melted butter and the eggs.

Knead the mixture to a soft dough using lukewarm water.

The dough should not be dry. Knead for 8-10 minutes till it becomes soft and springy.

Cover in cling and leave to rise for 1 hour.

Filling
Beat together the soft butter, icing sugar and cinnamon powder till light and fluffy.

Frosting
Pour boiling water over icing sugar in a bowl and whisk till you get a smooth paste of dropping consistency.

Making the Rolls
Knock the air out of the dough after 1 hour and roll into a rectangle.

Spread the filling evenly all over the rolled dough.

Now roll the dough into a cylinder and slice to get little rolls.

Leave to rise for 30 minutes.

Bake these rolls in a preheated oven at 180 degres celsius for 20 minutes.

Cool slightly, drizzle with frosting and serve.

Enjoy!
